The Indian Cricket Team has risen to the number one spot in the ICC One Day International (ODI) Team Rankings. This comes after India’s historic win against South Africa during the 6 day ODI match.
India started the six match series in the second spot with 119 points. South Africa stood in the number one spot with just a two point lead. After India managed to get a 4-1 lead in the 6 day ODI series their points increased to 122. This dropped South Africa to the second spot with 118 points.
If India loses the match on Friday the team will just lose a point but remain in the first spot with 121 points. But if India manages to win the series with 5-1 then India will make 123 points dropping South Africa to 117 points.
South Africa is likely to drop lower depending on the ODI between New Zealand and England. If England wins five of the six matches against New Zealand, the Britishers will push South Africa to the third position.
This is the second time India reached the first spot. The last time was back in 2017 when India managed to over power Australia during an ODI series putting them on the top of the table.
