On the 22nd of October, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully finished the trials of the Nag anti tank missile.

The trials were completed at 6:45 A.M., on the 22nd of October using a live warhead on a dud tank at the Pokhran army ranges.

The Anti Tank Missile would now be inducted in the Indian Army. The Nag trial comes after the DRDO tested the helicopter launched Stand-off Anti-Tank Missile (SANT) with beyond 10 km range from the Balasore testing range in Odisha, on the 19th of October.

According to senior government officials, the Nag anti tank missile is now ready for induction as it has completed 10 successful user trials with the weapon finding and then hitting the target.

The DRDO said, “India today successfully carried out the final trial of the DRDO developed Nag anti-tank guided missile with a warhead. The test was carried out at 6:45 A.M., at the Pokhran field firing ranges in Rajasthan.”

With the completion of the final trial of Nag anti tank missile, the Indian Army will no longer have to import this weapon from either Israel or the United States of America (U.S.A.,) for the range of four kilometres.

It was due to unavailability of a credible anti tank weapon, that India had to buy around 200 pieces of Spike anti tank missiles from Israel, as emergency purchases after the aggression by the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) in Ladakh.

The series of tests of missiles are said to be a step to strengthen the Indian Army in terms of weapons, especially when the China-India clash is still going on.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and others lauded DRDO’s efforts towards strengthening India’s defence capabilities.

Stay tuned for further updates.
