Almost everyone in India has traveled by train and would have encountered a fight regarding berths. It is a common issue that the upper berth passengers face when the lower berth passengers want to sleep as soon as they have boarded the train. But on the other hand, the lower berth passengers complain that they can’t sit up straight in the morning as the middle berth passengers sleep late.

The Indian Railways decided to take action and stop the petty arguments once and for all. The Indian Railways sent a circular that stated that passengers in the reserved coaches can sleep between 10 P.M., to 6 A.M. The rule for sleep hours has been there for a long time but the railway department intends to enforce it this time.

The circular read, “Sleeping accommodation between 2200 hours and 0600 hours and sitting accommodation for the rest of the period are provided for the passengers in the reserved coaches having sleeping accommodation.”

The circular kept exceptions in mind and said that passengers should cooperate in case of a sick passenger, pregnant passengers and disabled passengers and allow them to sleep beyond the permissible limits if they need to.

To ensure that the rules are followed the Train Ticket Examiner (TTE) will be making rounds and waking up all the passengers who are asleep after 6:00 in the morning.
