The Union Health Ministry, on the 28th of May, confirmed 1,58,333 cases of the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19 infection in India.

With just two days left for the end of the lockdown 4.0., the rise in COVID-19 cases is a major concern for the Central Government and state governments.  In the last 24 hours, India witnessed a spike of 6,566 cases of the COVID-19 infection.    While positive cases increased by 6,566 deaths in India increased by 194 deaths and stood at 4,531 deaths.

 Out of 28 Indian states, Maharashtra is the only state to cross 55,000 cases of the Novel Coronavirus.   Maharashtra  stands number 1 with 56,948 cases, followed by Tamil Nadu (18,545,) Delhi (15257,) Gujarat (15,205,) and Rajasthan 7,816.

The other states with below 10,000 cases are Madhya Pradesh (7,261),) Uttar Pradesh (6,991,) West Bengal (4,192,) Andhra Pradesh (3,117) Bihar (3,036.)

India which became the 10th worst COVID-19 hit nation after crossing 1.38 lakh cases on the 25th of May.   Though the cases are increasing rapidly with a minimum of  6,000 cases everyday, the Health Ministry of India assured precautions and said the recovery rate has improved to 42.75 %  from previous 38 – 40 %.

In addition, India resumed aviation services and is set to start railway services from the 1st of June.

SpiceJet aviation service, on the 27th of May, confirmed two SpiceJet passengers to be COVID-19 positive.

Passengers who travelled from Ahmedabad to Guwahati on the 25th of May were tested at the Guwahati airport and resulted in Coronavirus positive.

The cabin crew present in the flight were quarantined and the passengers boarding the same flight were also asked to go self quarantine.

Such cases raise security questions and matters of concern, especially when the cases are expected to reach the highest peak in the month of June and July.

According to the health experts, the Novel Coronavirus cases may increase to a new peak in the coming days.

Meanwhile, the nation wide lockdown is scheduled to end on the 31st of May.
