IPS Officer Arrested For Cheating on UPSC Exam

In a shocking incident, an IPS officer was arrested after cheating on the UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) mains examination in Chennai.

The accused Safeer Karim managed to secure the 112th rank in the 2014 UPSC examinations and was working towards becoming an IAS officer. The exam was conducted at the Presidency Girls Higher Secondary School in Chennai on Monday.

Karim was caught with a Bluetooth device, he was using to speak to his Hyderabad based wife during the exam. The officials were keeping an eye on Karim as they felt he had cheated on Saturday’s exam as well.

The policemen posted outside the classroom took Karim’s phone and wallet but he managed to sneak another phone in. One of the officers was quoted saying, “He had concealed another phone and wireless earpieces in his socks and a miniature camera in his shirt.”

Karim will be dismissed from the IPS cadre as he was under probation, working as an Assistant Superintendent of Police at Tirunelveli.

The police booked Safeer under Indian Penal Code Sections 420 (cheating) and 120 (B) (criminal conspiracy.) Safeer’s wife was also arrested from Hyderabad for helping her husband cheat.
