On the 11th of October, the Income Tax (IT) Department continued its raids at the Siddhartha Medical College premises in Karnataka.

The IT Department started the raid on the 10th of October at the residence of G. Parameshwara, the former Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka.

The IT Department seized Rs. 4.52 crores from the raid at his residence, following which, on the 11th of October, they started a raid at the Siddhartha Medical College.  The Siddhartha Medical College is affiliated to Sri Siddhartha Academy of Higher Education, of which Parameshwara is the Chancellor.

The IT officials raided as many as 30 colleges, which are selling government quota seats of three institutes affiliated with the Sri Siddhartha Academy of Higher Education.

The IT officers also raided the properties and colleges owned by R.L. Jalappa, a member of the INC.

The IT officers said the colleges under Parameshwara and R.L. Jalappa auction the government quota seats and give it to non deserving students for Rs. 50 to 60 lakhs.  To justify their allegations, the officials said in one of these colleges, where merit students who have a NEET rank within 1 lakh are admitted, a candidate holding an 8.2 lakh rank was admitted.

G.Parameshwara welcomed the raids at 30 locations and said, “If raids are being conducted on the educational institutions I have no objection. Let them look at all the documents.”

Siddaramaiah, the former Chief Minister of Karnataka, said, “The series of IT raids on @DrParameshwara, RL Jalappa & others, are politically motivated with malafide intention. They are only targeting @INCKarnataka leaders as they have failed to face us on policy and corruption issues. We won’t budge to any such tactics!!”

So far, the IT officials seized cash worth Rs. 5 crores during the raids at the properties owned by Parameshwara and R.L. Jalappa.  The IT raids are still underway.

Stay tuned for further updates.
