The Indian Youth Congress (IYC,) the youth wing of the Indian National Congress (INC,) is all set to protest against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on the 20th of November.

The IYC called for the massive protest after the withdrawal of the Special Protection Group (SPG) security cover provided to Sonia Gandhi, the interim President of the INC and the Gandhi family.

Recently, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi led BJP withdrew the SPG security provided to the Gandhi family after conducting a review meeting.

The Central Government ordered ‘Z plus’ security cover of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) be provided to the Gandhi family.

Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury and other leaders of the INC were disappointed with the decision of the BJP Government and raised the matter during the Winter Session of the Parliament.

On the 19th of November, Adhir Ranjan gave an adjournment motion notice in the Lok Sabha for removing the SPG security.

Mr. Ranjan said, “Sonia Gandhi ji and Rahul Gandhi ji are not normal protectees. Vajpayee ji had allowed Special Protection Group security for the Gandhi family. From 1991-2019, NDA came to power twice but their SPG cover was never removed. I don’t know what has happened to them (Modi Government.)”

T.R. Baalu, a member of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK,) raised the issue during the Zero Hour of the session.

However, Om Birla, the Speaker of the Lok Sabha, stopped them from discussing the matter.  Mr. Birla said the INC already mentioned the matter earlier, hence there is no need for them to speak about the same again.

On the 20th of November, the IYC took to its Twitter handle and called for a protest and sought support from the people of Delhi against the BJP’s order.

Stay tuned for further updates.
