A team of citizens of India on the 25th of January, launched ‘Jago Congress.’

The initiative was taken to highlight the need of a strong opposition party and to revive and rejuvenate the INC. Another major agenda to launch the unique petition was to push the Indian National Congress (INC) to revive as the strong opposition party, which was a strong opposition in India against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP.)

The unique launch was to mark the National Voters Day and the foundation day of the Election Commission of India.

The Jago India Team on its website mentioned, “Some people think it is impossible to revive the Congress. It is a valid concern. We are a little more hopeful. New leaders emerge in difficult situations. An external spark might just revive the Congress.”

Nearly 200 people signed petitions addressed to Sonia Gandhi, the interim President of the INC and members of the Congress Working Committee (CWC.)

The Jago India team is dedicated to revive the INC, engaging with people doing action oriented activities in future.

The main objective behind the campaign is to mobilize one million signatures to petition the Congress party and its President and push them to gear up in achieving the strong opposition party in India.

The petition is put up on change.org., and is also available in Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, Telugu, Marathi, Punjabi, and Urdu.

The people who digitally signed the petition are not into politics and are no way affiliated with the INC or any other political parties.

The petition read, “India needs a strong opposition to be a successful democracy. And only a successful democracy can guarantee individual rights and freedoms.”

The petition also demanded:

Free and fair elections for key posts especially that of the Congress Working Committee and President.

A term limit of two on a president will also allow fresh talent to come up in the party.

No two immediate family members should hold key posts at the same time.
