Three militants were shot dead and one soldier was injured in an encounter in Mujgund area, Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday night.

The gun battle lasted for 17  hours and ended on Sunday afternoon. Four houses in the area were destroyed and 3 civilians were injured.

The police  stated, “Three civilians also sustained injuries as the area was in open and the injured were shifted to (a) hospital for medical treatment. They are stated to be stable.” They further said, “The fire was coming from the militants’ side during the night as well. Perhaps one of the militants was moving from one house to another as it was a cluster of small houses where they were hiding. He was eliminated in the morning.”

The gunfight broke out after security personnel received information about the terrorists hiding inside a house in the Mujgund area.

The deceased militants were identified as Mudasir Rashid Parray, Saqib Bilal Sheikh and a juvenile, Ali. The militants were members of Lashkar e Taiba (LeT.) Mudasir and Saqib were from Bandipora’s Hajin and Sumbal areas respectively and Ali was from Pakistan.

The police statement said, weapons, ammunitions and other such materials were found at the encounter spot. The statement further said, the people residing near the area are requested to avoid visiting the area as explosive materials may be present there, which can be dangerous.

The soldiers launched an operation and sanitised the area to ensure the safety of the residents.
