The Election Commission of India (ECI,) on the 1st of November, announced the schedule for the 2019 Jharkhand Assembly elections.
The ECI organised a press meet and Sunil Arora, the Chief Election Commissioner, announced the dates of the Jharkhand Assembly elections.
Jharkhand is going to contest a total of 81 Assembly seats in 5 phases, starting from the 30th of November. The results of the Assembly elections are scheduled to be announced on the 23rd of December.
The current term of the Jharkhand Government ends on the 5th of January 2020 and before the term ends, the State needs to conduct its Assembly elections and form the new Government.
The total strength of the Jharkhand Assembly is 82. While 81 Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) candidates are directly elected by the public of Jharkhand, one is nominated.
With the announcement of the dates of the Jharkhand Assembly elections, the Model Code of Conduct came into effect in the State.
