ABVP members disrupted an inter-university sports event at Jammu University after alleging that Kashmiri students had disrespected the national anthem.

The Members of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP,) interrupted an inter-university event at the Jammu University on Friday. This incident happened after the activists alleged that the Kashmiri students disrespected the National Anthem.

The activists pointed out a couple of students who were talking during the National Anthem at the sports event in the University. The talking incident had occurred on April 3, for which the activists staged a protest on Friday. The students entered the university at eleven in the morning and starting a sit in protest while shouting slogans.

The Kashmiri students alleged that on the insistence of ABVP the National Anthem was played amidst the football match on Friday. A Kashmiri student was quoted saying, “We all stood up as a mark of respect, but they did not allow the match to be held even after that.”

Avatar Singh Jasoria, the director of Sports and Physical Education department at the Jammu University said, “When you behave like this even with those who have been paying respect to the National Anthem here, what can you expect from those living in the Valley.” The University denied the charges by ABVP, who went on to disrupt the volleyball finals.

The group, along with RSS’s Student wing had said that they will not let the games begin unless all the Kashmiri students in the University apologized for disrespecting the Anthem.
