Jyotiraditya Scindia, the former General Secretary of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) of Uttar Pradesh East, on the 11th of July, asked the Congress Working Committee (CWC) to decide the next President of the Indian National Congress (INC.)

Mr. Scindia, on the 11th of July said, “Already seven weeks have passed, the Congress Working Committee (CWC) needs to decide the next president of the Party.”

He said, after the resignation of Rahul Gandhi, the Party should choose someone who can ‘re energise’ the INC.

Rahul Gandhi submitted his resignation on the 25th of May, two days after the results of the Lok Sabha elections. Mr. Gandhi took the responsibility for the INC’s defeat in the Lok Sabha elections and resigned as the President of the INC.

Despite several attempts by the INC leaders across India, Gandhi did not change his mind, due to which, many leaders across India also submitted their resignations, in support of Gandhi.

Emphasising on the urgency of appointing a new President, Mr. Scindia said, “The Party is presently passing through a critical situation. Congress needs to revive and reinvent itself before going back to people again for winning their confidence. I think that moment has arrived.”

When asked about his views about leadership qualities based on age and experience, Mr. Scindia said, “I’m not Modiji, don’t divide the country’s population into old and young. The need is to focus on individual capabilities instead on age. But with the passage of time, the change needs to happen. There will even be a time when I’ll have to go.”

Jyotiraditya Scindia, on the 11th of July, visited Guna in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh and met the INC workers and the public.

This was the first visit of Jyotiraditya Scindia to Guna after he lost the Lok Sabha seat against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP.)
