Kamal Nath, the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, cleared his name from nephew Ratul Puri’s arrest. He said he had no connection with the business of his nephew and has no idea about his bank frauds.
Mr. Nath, on the 20th of August, addressed the media and said, “To start with, I have no connection with the business they are doing. I am neither a shareholder nor a director.” He further added, “To me it appears to be purely malafide action. I have full faith the courts will take a corrective stand in this.”
The Enforcement Directorate (ED,) on the night of the 19th of August, arrested Ratul Puri for allegedly being involved in a bank fraud of Rs. 354 crores. Apart from the bank fraud, the ED and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) are also investigating an old scam of the AgustaWestland chopper deal.
Apart from Mr. Ratul Puri, the ED also arrested Deepak Puri and Nita Puri. The case was registered with the ED by the Central Bank of India.
The investigation started on the 18th of August, following which, Ratul Puri was asked to appear before the CBI and the ED.
To clear his name from the case and avoiding any political angle to the case, Kamal Nath organised a press conference in Bhopal and clarified his stand.
The CBI and the ED are still investigating the case.
