On the 18th of July, the Karnataka Government has conducted the no confidence motion at Vidhana Soudha, the Karnataka Legislative Assembly.

Today’s trust votes will decide the fate of the Janata Dal (Secular) (JD[S]) and the Indian National Congress (INC) in Karnataka.

The situation of the JD(S,) the ruling Government of Karnataka, worsened after 15 Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) of the INC and the JD(S) resigned from the parties.

With the resignation of the MLAs, the number of MLAs in the Government will reduce to 101, as the total strength of the MLAs is 117.

The resignations will benefit the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to gain power in the State as the strength of the BJP, after the rebel MLAs join the Party, will be 107.

The BJP is using the current situation to gain power in Karnataka and demanded the resignation of H.D.Kumaraswamy, the Chief Minister of Karnataka.

Today’s crucial trust vote will be the only chance for the JD(S)- INC Karnataka Government to remain in power.

According to the sources, the no confidence motion began at 11:00 A.M., at the Vidhana Soudha. Ahead of the floor test, Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) was imposed in the Vidhana Soudha, which restricts any public gatherings or meetings.

All the MLAs, MPs and other leaders are ready to vote, which will form the climax of the Karnataka Government crisis.

As per the Supreme Court’s orders, the 15 rebel MLAs are not allowed to participate in the floor test.

On the other hand, D.K. Shivakumar, a senior leader of the INC, is trying to meet the MLAs and convince them to withdraw their resignations.

While Ramalinga Reddy, one of the rebel MLAs and a member of the INC, agreed to withdraw his resignation, the others are adamant about their decision.

Confident about their win, B.S. Yeddyurappa, the President of the BJP in Karnataka, said, “We are 101 % confident. They are less than 100, we are 105. There is no doubt that their motion will be defeated.”

The MLAs and senior leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP,) the JD(S) and the INC were present during the floor test.

Stay tuned for further updates.
