The Karnataka Government decided to file criminal cases against hospitals denying treatment to the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19 infected patients. 

K. Sudhakar, the Medical Education Minister of Karnataka, on the 6th of July said, “Criminal proceedings will be initiated against hospitals which refuses to treat COVID-19 patients, while warning of a flow in cases in the coming days.”  He further added, “There were some incidents of COVID-19 patients being denied by the hospitals.  Patients can consult a 24×7 helpline ‘1912’ for any such complaints.”

Speaking about the facilities provided by the Central Government to handle the Coronavirus situation in the State, Mr. Sudhakar said, the Central Government provided only 117 beds to the State Government where 2,734 beds were promised. 

Mr. Sudhaar said, “Private labs have not taken any testing load.  Rules will be framed soon for private labs to test the samples sent by the Government.”

Briefing about the prevention measures for the Novel Coronavirus, the State Government decided to increase quarantine centres and regulating rules for senior citizens’ isolation

K. Sudhakar said, “We are discussing with experts about the issue and will take a call soon.”

Meanwhile, Karnataka Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai said the State currently has 80 ambulances and needs 500 more ambulances. 

Mr. Bommai said, “Two ambulances are deputed per ward now, which has to be increased to four per ward.”

Till date, Karnataka reported a total of 23,474 positive cases, of which 13,249 are active cases, 9,849 are recovered/discharged and 372 deceased. 

The State conducted a total of 7,06,425 sample tests for the Novel Coronavirus till the 6th of July.
