On Tuesday, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD,) President Lalu Prasad came out to support BSP leader Mayawati. Mayawati resigned from Rajya Sabha on Monday after not being heard out.

The RJD President offered Mayawati a seat to the Upper House in Bihar.

Lalu Prasad reacted to Mayawati’s resignation and said, “Today would be remembered as a black day in the history when a highly respected Dalit leader was not allowed to raise the voice of (the) poor in the Rajya Sabha.”

On Tuesday, during the House meeting, Mayawati tried to raise the issue of the atrocities against the Dalits in Uttar Pradesh. She wasn’t heard out, making her angry and storming out of the House.

Lalu Prasad also added, “If Mayawati wishes, we will send her to Rajya Sabha from Bihar.”

Lalu Prasad’s RJD party has 80 MLAs in the 243 members Bihar Legislative Assembly. He went on to say, “We are with her.”

Mayawati’s current term was coming to an end in April 2018. Her party has only 18 MLAs in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly putting her in no position to be part of the Rajya Sabha.

Lalu Prasad also condemned the House’s behavior towards Mayawati, “Chanakya had said that an assembly (of people) where a person is not allowed to speak through the force of brute majority is no assembly.”

Lalu Prasad’s support to Mayawati is in efforts to unite her and Samajwadi party leader Akhilesh Yadav. Lalu Prasad has also invited the two leaders to his rally on the 27th of August in Bihar.
