On the 3rd of December, a member of Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee sent a legal notice to Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut.

According to sources, the notice was sent over a tweet by Kangana Ranaut.

According to the tweet, Ms. Ranaut allegedly targeted farmers protesting against the three new farm laws. Ms. Ranaut alleged the ‘Shaheen Bagh dadi’, who made international headlines during the anti Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) protests earlier this year in the Delhi neighbourhood of Shaheen Bagh, now also joined the farmers’ agitation over the new agriculture laws.

Ranaut posted the picture of Mohinder Kaur (73), a resident of village Bahadurgarh Jandian of Bathinda.

The actor in her tweet said the “same Shaheen Bagh Dadi who featured in Time Magazine was available for Rs. 100 to protest.

Advocate Harpreet Singh Hora issued the notice on behalf of the committee member Jasmain Singh Noni.

The notice read, “Similarly, the right to peacefully protest is part of the farmers’ rights under the Constitution of India and she cannot claim a right to demean and insult the farmers.”

The actor later deleted her tweet after she was slammed for sharing “fake news.”

The legal notice also said that several news reports claimed that the said two women were not the same. “And even otherwise, she has no right to defame any old woman for her political mileage,” it said.

The notice further read, “This is a clear example of a hate tweet and needs to be tackled at the earliest.”

The notice issued to Ms. Ranaut demanded an apology to the Shaheen Bagh Dadi within seven days.

The farmers from Haryana and Punjab are protesting against the three farm bills, passed by the Central Government.

The three farm bills are, the Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill 2020, the Farmers Agreement of Price Assurance and Farm Services Bill 2020 (Empowerment and Protection) and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Bill 2020, were cleared by the President of India.

According to the passed bills, the Minimum Support Price (MSP,) area of trading would be under the purview of the Indian Government.

The reason behind the farmers protest is their fear of being at the mercy of corporates or zamindars for crop prices. The new bills would also demolish the Minimum Support Price (MSP) advantages for farmers.

The farmers are still protesting in Delhi and are likely to continue until talks between the farmers and the Union Government are completed.

Stay tuned for further updates.
