Lok Sabha: ISRO Is Experimenting On Structures For The Moon

Today at the Lok Sabha, the Government spoke about the Indian Space Research Organization’s (ISRO) experiments for structures on the Moon.

Minister of State for the Department of Space Jitendra Singh said in a written statement, “The ISRO, along with academic institutions, is doing experimentation on potential structures for lunar habitation.”

This came after a query on whether the ISRO was working on building an igloo on the Moon. An igloo is a small dome like structure made out of ice for people to stay warm and dry.

Singh further added, “Various options are being studied about the requirements and complexities of habitats. The study is more towards futuristic developments.” These experiments are being done for potential missions on the Moon in the future.

ISRO launched its first Moon mission Chandrayaan 1 in 2008. This was followed by Chandrayaan 2 which carried a rover to look at the unexplored areas of the South pole. This rover on the Lunar surface will send high quality images to help us understand the moon better.
