M K Stalin urges CBI’s Probe: Smart City Project

Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam’s (DMK) President M K Stalin urged the CBI to probe into the Smart City Project. He asked for an investigation on the projects tendered to implement Smart city Mission by Minister for Municipal Administration S. P. Velumani.

M K Stalin on Saturday slammed S. P. Velumani alleging nepotism in awarding tenders for the Smart City Project. He said that tenders were given to the companies with little experience in dealing with such projects.

The DMK Chief also requested to cover all the other projects by S. P. Velumani as he is confident that apart from Tamil Nadu Urban Finance and Infrastructure Development (TUFIDCO) most tenders in Velumani’s department has been awarded to close relatives and ministers.

S. P. Velumani reacted over the allegations and said, “Stalin should realise he is the DMK President and not the Chief Minister.”

Mr. Stalin immediately questioned the government, “When the Centre and State governments were contributing equally to implement the project, why was the Centre silent about the irregularities?” Stalin also added, “Since the Centre’s money was also involved it is a fit case for an investigation.”

M. K. Stalin said that there were irregularities in awarding contracts even installing LED lamps in Chennai Corporation.
