Mahant Pratibhanand Arrested in Connection with BSP Leader’s Murder

Last week, the Delhi Police released pictures of spiritual gurus who were suspected to have given money to get Bahujan Samaj Party Leader Deepak Bhardwaj killed. The police arrested one of the suspects today.

The picture was of Machendranath guru who go by the alias Pratibhanand. From the pictures released Mahant Pratibhanand was arrested by the Ghaziabad Police.

The accused Pratibhanand had a bounty of Rs. 1 lakh on his head.

The BSP Leader’s youngest son Nitesh had plotted a plan to kill his father over a property dispute. Mahant Pratibhanand was on the run at the time when he received a contract to kill Bhardwaj.

On 26th March 2013, Bhardwaj was shot dead at his farmhouse in Rajokri in Vasant Kunj area in New Delhi. The police arrested the two men who gunned him down, Sunil Mann and Purushottam Rana.

The owner of the car that was used to escape the crime scene was also arrested. The owner of the car was identified as Rakesh. The son Nitesh and his advocate Baljeet Singh Sehrawat were also arrested.

Bhardwaj was considered to be the richest candidate while contesting for the 15th Lok Sabha from the West Delhi Constituency in 2009. He had declared assets worth more than 6 billion rupees.
