Maharashtra Government To Pass Resolution Against CAA?

The Maharashtra Government also expected to pass a resolution against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019.

After Kerala and Punjab, the grand alliance of the Shiv Sena, the Nationalists Congress Party (NCP) and the Indian National Congress (INC) also thinking to pass the resolution.

On the 19th of January, Raju Waghmare, the Spokesperson of the INC, addressed the media and said, “Our senior party leader Balasaheb Thorat has also shared his stand on the CAA. Even Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has said that we are against the CAA. As far as the resolution against CAA is concerned, our senior leaders of MVA will sit together and decide.”

Recently Kerala and Punjab Government’s passed a resolution against the CAA. The CAA is implemented on the 10th of January, which grants citizenship to  refugees from Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh, residing in India since or before the 31st of December, 2014.

The issue which is problematic with the Act is, it provides citizenship to refugees based on their religious beliefs and includes, Jains, Hindus, Christians, Parsis, Buddhists and Sikhs, excluding Muslims.

In defence, the Central Government said the major reason of the Act is to help people who are being persecuted in the aforementioned countries because of their religious beliefs. However, the citizens are protesting against the Act, claiming it to be anti Muslim and against Secularism, an ideal of the Indian Constitution.

If Maharashtra Government would also pass a resolution against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, then it would be 3rd State to do so.

Stay tuned for further updates.
