The images were shared on this Bulli Bai platform for sale, backed by an open source GitHub application. Although there was no actual auction, but the circulation of images with sale was humiliating and derogatory for Muslim women.
The matter gained criticism and outrage from female political leaders and journalists, demanding immediate investigation and strict action against the culprits.
On the 4th of January, the cyber cell of the Mumbai police had arrested Shweta Singh (19,) alleged to be the main culprit, from Uttarakhand and an engineering student identified as Vishal Kumar Jha (21) from Bengaluru.
