The nation recalled the terrific 26/11, the Mumbai Terror Attack, happened on 26th of November 2008. The terror attack,14 years ago on 26/11, left the entire nation in shock and is still fresh in the minds of people.

In the remembrance of the victims and the officers who lost their lives in the terror attack, political leaders, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President of India Ms. Draupadi Murmu and union ministers paid tributes. 

Social media platforms like Twitter, Instagram and Facebook also witnessed a bunch of messages and tweets of gratitude and homage to the victims and security personnel who fought the 26/11 terror attack.  Several hashtags have been trending since the past few hours on social media platforms. 

Mr. Narendra Modi said, “Today is also the anniversary of #MumbaiTerrorAttack. Fourteen years ago, when India was celebrating its Constitution and citizens’ rights, enemies of humanity carried out the biggest terror attack on India. I pay tribute to those who lost their lives in the attack.”

statement by President Droupadi Murmu on Twitter read: “We share the enduring pain of their loved ones and families. Nation pays homage to the security personnel who fought valiantly and made supreme sacrifice in the line of duty,” the tweet further read.

“Terrorism threatens humanity. Today, on 26/11, the world joins India in remembering its victims. Those who planned and oversaw this attack must be brought to justice. We owe this to every victim of terrorism around the world,” said Union Minister for External Affairs Mr. S.Jaishankar tweeted along with the video.

Defence Minister of India Mr. Rajnath Singh tweeted,” मुंबई में 26/11 को हुए आतंकी हमले की बरसी पर मैं उन सभी लोगों की स्मृति को नमन करता हूँ जिन्हें इस घटना में अपनी जान गँवानी पड़ी। इस हमले में मुक़ाबला करते हुए जिन सुरक्षाकर्मियों ने अपना बलिदान किया, उन्हें मेरी भावभीनी श्रद्धांजलि। यह देश 26/11 की घटना न भूला है, न कभी भूलेगा। (Salutes the memory of all those who lost their lives in this incident”. “My heartfelt tributes to the security personnel who sacrificed their lives while fighting this attack. This country has not forgotten the incident of 26/11, nor will it ever forget.)

Union Home Minister Mr. Amit Shah said, “I…remember and salute our brave security personnel who made the supreme sacrifice fighting the terrorists. Today gives a message to the whole world to fight unitedly against terrorism.”

What was the 26/11 incident? 

A Pakistan based terrorist group, Lashkar e Taiba (LeT,) spread violence and terror in Mumbai, the financial hub of India.  Approximately 166 people were killed in the attack and many were injured.  The families who lost their loved ones are still waiting for justice against the 10 armed men who were responsible for the attack.  Of the 10 terrorists behind the 26/11 attack, 9 terrorists were killed and the lone survivor, Ajmal Amir Kasab, was caught and sentenced to death at Yerwada Central Jail in Pune in 2012.   

The Jamaat-ud-Dawah (JuD), whose mastermind was Hafiz Saeed, was believed to have plotted the 26/11 attacks.  The ghastly attacks, which began on the 26th of November 26, 2008, lasted for four days in several locations including Taj Mahal hotel, the Oberoi hotel, the Leopold Cafe, the Nariman (Chabad) House, and the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus train station.
