The man who put Hockey on the Map

Born on the 29th of August 1905, Dhyan Chand was popularly known as the Wizard of Hockey. He won gold for India in the Olympics. He is the man who bagged 3 Olympics Gold medals. This man would have crossed all records of winning gold medals and turned 113 years if alive.

It would be interesting to know that the real name was Dhyan Singh, not Chand when one day his friend referred him as Dhyan Chand as he used to practice in the moonlight. Major Dhyan Chand was a legend and was always this passionate about Hockey. He joined the British Indian Army as a sepoy at the age of 16 years starting his Hockey career at the same time.

The man was always proud to the nation, he always stands out and was a magic in the fields of Hockey. It is reported that during the Netherland Matches one of the officers broke the stick of Dhyan Chand shaken by his performance and thinking that he might have a magnet in his stick.

Dhyan Chand has incredible stories of his success that famous dictator, Adolf Hitler impressed by his skills offered him German Citizenship and the rank of Colonel in his army.

Dhyan Chand will always be remembered as the best scorer and gold medal winner during the 1928, 1932 and 1936 Olympic games. After achieving so much Indian Government awarded his talent with Padma Bhushan in the year 1956.
