Navjot Kaur Wins Gold Medal At Asian Wrestling Championships

Navjot Kaur is the first Indian woman to win a gold medal at the Asian Wrestling Championships. On Friday, Kaur defeated her opponent Imai Miyu from Japan in the finals of the 65 Kg title in the capital of Kyrgyzstan.

After winning the gold medal Navjot Kaur said, “Now I have won and I’m proud to become the first woman from India to win a gold at the Asian Championship.” Kaur dedicated her title to India and called it a gift of Holi to the Country. She thanked her coach and the relentless support she received.

Before the finals, Kaur was nervous and said she just kept telling herself that it was time to prove her worth.  Kaur won a bronze and silver in 2011 and 2013 at the Asian Wrestling Championship.

Indian wrestler Sakshi Malik in the 62 Kg title settled for a bronze medal after being defeated by Xiaojuan Luo from China.
