Navy, Coast Guard rescues 14 crew members from sinking ship

Mumbai: Nearly 14 crew members were rescued from a sinking ship on Wednesday morning by the Indian Navy and Coast Guard. The crew members were rescued off the Daman coast when the ship sank 24 nautical miles south of Daman. Rescued members were evacuated to Umargaon.

Early this morning, an SOS was received from the vessel MV Coastal Pride- a cement carrier, according to Indian Navy PRO DK Sharma. The Indian Navy and Coast Guard jointly worked on the rescue operation. Sharma added that two Chetak helicopters of the Coast Guard and one SeaKIng chopper were deployed in the operation.

Coast Guard launched two Chetak helicopters at around 0840 hours and the other launched the SeaKing chopper at 0758 hours from INS Shikra for the rescue operation.
