Disappointed with the constant rise in fuel prices, netizens of India started one of its kind challenges on various social media platforms.
The social media protest was named #ThankYouModiJiChallenge, which soon went viral .
What is #ThankYouModijiChallenge?
Many netizens took to their social media handles (Twitter, Facebook and Instagram) and posted a picture of themselves posing with folded hands (namaste posture) in front of banners, cut outs, flexis of the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi.
Seen like a hilarious meme, this unique sarcastic protest of the netizens is about a serious issue of increasing fuel prices in India. Since the beginning of 2021, prices of diesel and petrol touched the mark of Rs. 100. In several states and metropolitan cities, people are suffering due to the extreme hike in prices of petrol and diesel.
With the recent hike in prices, the fuel rates increased for the 25th time in India. The major reason behind the rise in the fuel prices is to balance retail prices in line with global developments due to the rise in crude oil prices.
State owned fuel retailers, the Indian Oil Corporation Ltd., (IOC,) the Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) and the Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd., (HPCL) resume daily price revision. Everyday fuel prices are updated at 6:00 A.M. Fuel prices differ from state to state depending on the incidence of local taxes such as VAT and freight charges
