The Nitish Kumar-led Bihar Government is likely to expand its cabinet on the 16th of August, Tuesday.

The statement of cabinet expansion of the Janata Dal-United (JDU) and the Rashtra Janata Dal (RJD) alliance in Bihar, came a day after Mr. Nitish Kumar, the JDU President took oath as the 8th Chief Minister of Bihar.  After announcing its sudden exit from the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP,) Nitish Kumar joined with the Lalu Prasad Yadav-led RJD.

On the 10th of August, Mr. Nitish Kumar took the office oath as the Chief Minister of Bihar, whereas Mr. Tejaswi Yadav of the RJD became the Deputy Chief Minister.  After forming the Government, the JDU would now expand its cabinet.

Furthermore, the Nitish Kumar led Government would also expected to prove its majority during a special assembly session, scheduled on the 24th of August.

Meanwhile, the Mahagathbandhan has brought a no confidence motion against the Bihar Assembly Speaker Mr. Vijay Kumar Sinha, who is also a BJP Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA.)

A notice signed by several legislators of the Mahagathbandhan was submitted to the assembly secretariat on the 11th of August, seeking the removal of Mr. Vijay Kumar Sinha, who refused to resign.  “The motion against Sinha will be taken up by the House when it meets to enable Nitish Kumar to move a trust vote,” said senior JD(U) leader Mr. Vijay Kumar Chaudhary.

It is to be noted, Mr. Vijay Kumar Chaudhary claimed, “As per rules, a Speaker can be removed from office by a resolution of the assembly passed by a majority.”

It is to be noted, Bihar Assembly has 164 MLAs, of which 77 are from the BJP.
