Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister of Delhi, on the 17th of October, announced the exemptions under the Odd-Even scheme in Delhi.

Arvind Kejriwal, the President of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP,) addressed the media and said school buses and two wheelers would be exempted from following the Odd-Even scheme.

The Delhi Government launched the scheme to tackle the increasing pollution caused due to crop burning in northern India and around states like Punjab and Haryana.

With the help of the seven point action plan of the Odd-Even scheme, the Arvind Kejriwal led AAP would be able to control the air pollution in Delhi.  Under the scheme, vehicles with odd numbered licence plates and even numbered plates will be allowed to ply on the roads on alternate days, which would be a way to reduce traffic and pollution.

After coming to power, the AAP implements the scheme every year since 2016, especially close to Diwali.

On the 17th of October, while announcing the exemptions, Kejriwal said, “Vehicles carrying children in school uniform.”  He further added, “Chief Ministers of other States and UTs will be exempted, but it will be applicable for Chief Minister and Ministers of Delhi.”

Apart from these, women driving vehicles would also be exempted from the scheme.

In case any vehicle violates the rules of the Odd-Even scheme, the State Government would charge them a heavy fine of Rs. 4,000.

The scheme will be imposed from the 4th of November and will continue till the 15th of November.

Stay tuned for further updates.
