On the 3rd day of the Winter Session of the Parliament, opposition parties raised the Kashmir issue and the curfew imposed in a few regions since the 5th of August.

On the 5th of August, Amit Shah, the Home Minister of India, announced the revocation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir.

Since the 5th of August, safety has been a big issue in Jammu and Kashmir.  Individuals residing in the newly formed Union Territory are suffering due to a shutdown, the suspension of internet services and other issues.

Amit Shah addressed the Parliament and spoke about the situation in Jammu and Kashmir.  He said, “Section 144 is removed from Jammu and Kashmir. We agree that mobile and internet are important facilities and needs to be restored soon. But we must remember that it was the BJP that had brought mobile to the Valley. But when it comes to the safety of the Country, we have to set a priority. As we all know, the situation in Kashmir remains tensed due to threats from across the border. As far as the internet is concerned, its restoration will be carried out at an appropriate time on admin inputs.”  Amit Shah concluded the Jammu and Kashmir debate by saying, “Everything is normal in Kashmir. The administration has taken care of health services. Availability of petrol, diesel, kerosene, LPG, and rice is adequate. 22 lakh metric ton apples are expected to be produced. All landlines are open.” He further said the Government would soon restore the internet services as well.

Another major issue which was raised during the Session for the second time was the withdrawal of the Special Protection Group (SPG) security provided to the Gandhi family.

The issue of Delhi’s pollution is also scheduled to be discussed during today’s session.

The Rajya Sabha is also expected to take up the Surrogacy (Regulation) Bill and the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Bill.  The Surrogacy (Regulation) Bill was tabled on the 19th of November, but the discussion about it could not be completed. The discussion is expected to continue today.

Discussions about the Chit Funds (Amendment) Bill and the National Institute of Design (Amendment) Bill would also take place today.

The Winter Session of the Parliament began on the 18th of November and would continue till the 13th of December.

Stay tuned for further updates.
