Prime Minister Narendra Modi challenged the Congress President Rahul Gandhi to speak for more than 15 minutes without a script. At a campaign in Karnataka, PM Modi lashed out at Gandhi for his previous comments.

Modi said, “I challenge you to speak for 15 minutes on the achievements of your government in Karnataka without reading from any piece of paper. You can speak in Hindi, English or your mata ki matra bhasha (mother tongue.)”

On Sunday at a public meeting, Mr. Gandhi said, “Modi is afraid to stand in Parliament… If I am allowed to speak for 15 minutes on the Rafale issue in Parliament before Modi, he will not be able to face it.”

After this comment, Modi gave out his challenge for the Congress Chief at Chamarajanagar in South Karnataka.

Mocking the Congress President, Modi said, “The Congress President has challenged me, said if he speaks for 15 minutes in parliament Modi will not be able to sit. He is correct there is no way ordinary people like me, who do not even dress well, can sit with such high and mighty people like the Congress President.”

He further added, “His speaking for 15 minutes is itself is a big thing… Congress president, sir, we cannot sit before you. You are ‘naamdar‘ (famous), while I am ‘kaamdar’ (ordinary worker). We have no status to sit in front of you.”

Reacting to Modi calling himself an ordinary worker, Divya Spandana the Congress social media in charge hit back with a tweet. Spandana added a picture of Modi wearing an expensive jacket with the caption, “@narendramodi ji so fancy! I love the Loro Piana jacket on you! Only 17,000 Euros! Very cheap. Who’s credit card was used to pay for this Modi ji?”

Citizens of Karnataka will vote on the 12th of May for their new 224 member Assembly. The counting of the votes along with the results will be held three days after the voting commences.
