PM Modi: Mizoram Is The Third Power Surplus State In The Northeast

Prime Minister Narendra Modi proudly said Mizoram became the third power surplus State in the Northeast after Sikkim and Tripura. On Saturday, PM Modi in Mizoram said the central schemes to benefit the Northeast gained momentum.

PM Modi also said the ruling Government was committed and determined to develop the region. The Prime Minister was quoted saying, “Today, we celebrate a significant milestone in the history of Mizoram with the completion and dedication of the 60 MW Tuirial Hydropower Project.”

Modi addressed a public meeting after which he inaugurated the Tuirial Hydropower Project. As the project was commissioned, Mizoram received the title of the third power surplus State in the Northeast.

At the inauguration, Modi explained the Hydropower Project would produce “251 million units” of electrical energy each year. This, in turn, would result in the economic development of the State. Modi further added, “The completion of this project is a reflection of our commitment to completing the ongoing projects and ushering in a new era of development in the Northeast.”

The Tuirial Project was cleared and announced under the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Government in 1998. It was the first successful and major central project to be commissioned in Mizoram.
