On the 74th Independence Day celebrations at Red Fort PM Modi applauded the grit and resilience of the country’s frontline workers fighting the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19.
In regard to this, Mr. Modi said nearly 48,000 people died of COVID-19 and stressed on the need to become self reliant.
On the occasion of the Independence Day, nearly 1,500 “Coronavirus Winners” who recovered from the disease, attended the function in a symbol of the citizens’
Around 4,000 personnel are on security duty for the function to handle the situation.
Speaking about the development works, Mr. Modi said, “There are more than 1,300 islands in our country. Keeping in mind their geographical location and their significance in the development of the nation, work to begin new projects in some of these islands is underway.”
In addition, Mr. Modi spoke about the relationship with neighbouring countries and said, “Today, neighbours are not only those with whom we share our geographical boundaries but also those with whom our hearts meet.”
Mr. Modi said, “COVID-19 is not an obstacle big enough to hamper self-reliant India’s growth.”
Speaking of Jammu and Kashmir, Mr. Modi said,“This one year is a year of the new journey of development for Jammu and Kashmir. This one year is the year of the rights received by the women and the Dalits in Jammu and Kashmir. This one year is also the year of a life of dignity for the refugees in Jammu and Kashmir.”
He also spoke about the vaccine of COVID-19. He said, “All of us are waiting for a vaccine for Covid-19. I want to tell you that three vaccine candidates are at different stages of testing in the country. A made in India vaccine will be out soon.”
