Xi Jinping, the President of China will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on the 11th and 12th of October in Chennai.
The meeting is scheduled to be held during the 2nd informal Chennai Summit, which is being hosted by India in Chennai this year.
During the meeting, PM Modi and President Jinping are expected to discuss several bilateral issues between India and China.
The Government of India released a statement which states, “The forthcoming Chennai Informal Summit will provide an opportunity for the two leaders to continue their discussions on overarching issues of bilateral, regional and global importance and to exchange views on deepening India-China Closer Development Partnership.”
Likewise, China’s envoy to India, Sun Weidong, said China is looking forward to a fruitful and positive meeting with India. Sun Weidong said, “Under the strategic guidance of our leaders, China-India ties made steady progress in recent past. Looking ahead, we should further unleash the positive effect of Wuhan informal summit, transmit leaders’ consensus to all level & gather positive energy for stronger bilateral ties.”
The informal summit will be for two days, the 11th and the 12th of October at the five star resort of Mamallapuram in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.
This would be the first meeting of PM Modi and Xi Jinping after Narendra Modi’s recent victory in 2019 elections.
The last time both leaders met was in Wuhan, China in April 2018.
