PM Modi To Visit SII Pune To Review COVID-19 Vaccine Progress

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit the Pune based Serum Institute of India and review the COVID-19 vaccine progress.

The Serum Institute of India has partnered with global pharma giant AstraZeneca and the Oxford University for the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19 vaccine.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit the Serum Institute of India on the 28th of November.

During the visit, Mr. Modi would understand the process of vaccine production and distribution.

Saurabh Rao, the Pune Divisional Commissioner, said, “Honourable Prime Minister’s visit to Pune has been confirmed and he will visit Serum Institute. The minute to minute programme is expected soon.”

In regard to PM Modi’s visit, the top administrative and police officials from Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad conducted a meeting and discussed various arrangements to be made for the visit of PM Modi.

In view of this, a ‘familiarisation visit’ to Pune of foreign ambassadors and high commissioners on the 27th of November 27 has been postponed to the 4th of December.

Speaking about the same, Mr. Rao said, “Ambassadors and High Commissioners from around 100 countries are slated to come to Pune on December 4. The Ambassadors and High Commissioners would visit both Serum Institute and Gennova Biopharmaceuticals.”

The Serum Institute of India is one of the medical institutes of India, progressing with the COVID-19 vaccine.

India also plans to give the Serum Institute of India (SII,) emergency use approval for the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine candidate soon after it gets similar approval in the United Kingdom. For the approval the SII firm needs to apply for the emergency use, which they decided to do in December.

As of now, two vaccines, one by SII and another by the Hyderabad based Bharat Biotech are close to get approval.

Meanwhile, India is one of the top worst COVID-19 hit nations with the second highest number of cases, which is 9.1 millions.

The first nation with the highest 11 million cases is the United States of America (U.S.A.)

Stay tuned for further updates.
