On Saturday morning, professional car racer Ashwin Sundar and his wife Nivedhitha were burned to death in a car accident. The racer and his wife were in a BMW car when it hit a roadside tree in Santhome High Road in Chennai, and caught flames.
The Police said that as the doors were jammed, Ashwin and his wife were trapped in the car and could not get out. The car got stuck in between a wall and tree and caught fire and the couple was burned alive. Nivedihitha was a doctor in Chennai and Ashwin being a racer was driving the car.
The people who witnessed the accident immediately alerted the Chennai Police control room, who rushed to the spot. The police also alerted the Fire and rescue services who struggled around half an hour to put out the flames. The Adyar traffic investigation inspector Vanitha along with her team broke open the car and retrieved the bodies. The bodies of both the wife and husband have been sent to the Government Royapettah Hospital for postmortem.
The bodies were charred beyond recognition and were only identified after the police verified the vehicle registration number. The accident happened when they were returning home from their friends home at MRC Nagar in Raja Annamalapuram to their residence in Alapakkam near Porur.
