Rahul Gandhi Slams Centre Over Fuel Prices Hike, Says Petrol And Diesel Is Costlier Than Aviation Fuel

Mr. Rahul Gandhi, the former President of the Indian National Congress (INC,) slammed the Central Government for the increased prices of fuels.

On the 18th of October, Monday, Rahul Gandhi raised concerns over the constant rise in petrol and diesel prices and said it to be a serious issue. He took to Twitter and said, “this is a serious issue, as the issue of public welfare comes first and the daily requirements of the people are out of reach, but to benefit a few friends of the Prime Minister, the public is being cheated and I will stand with the people.” He asked the Prime Minister Narendra Modi led Central Government not to do tax extortion.

Mr. Rahul Gandhi’s tweet over fuel prices came after the constant rise of prices in the past one week. In the past seven days, everyday petrol and diesel prices have risen by a minimum of 30 paise. In many states and cities, petrol prices have crossed the Rs. 100 mark and diesel close to Rs. 100 per litre. The people are forced to use public transport, as Rs. 100 per litre petrol for daily commute is expensive.

With the recent Sunday hike of fuel prices, petrol is approximately 33 % more expensive than aviation turbine fuel (ATF.)

Besides Mr. Rahul Gandhi, another INC leader Ms. Priyanka Gandhi Vadhra also raised her voice against the fuel price rise. She said, “It (the Central Government) promised that the ordinary people with slippers will fly in planes but the situation is that the middle class and the poor are suffering and are unable to travel even on roads due to the fuel price rise.”

With every passing day, both diesel and petrol are becoming costlier for Indians. State owned fuel retailers, the Indian Oil Corporation Ltd., (IOC,) the Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) and the Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd., (HPCL) resume daily price revision. Everyday fuel prices are updated at 6:00 A.M. Fuel prices differ from state to state depending on the incidence of local taxes such as VAT and freight charges.
