Rahul Gandhi, the former President of the Indian National Congress (INC,) on the 13th of December, stood by his ‘Rape in India’ comment and refused to apologise for it.

Despite facing criticism from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders and ministers, Rahul Gandhi refused to apologise for the comment made during a public rally.

Mr. Gandhi, in defence, said, “I have a clip on my phone in which Narendra Modi ji is calling Delhi a ‘rape capital.’ will tweet is so that everyone can see. Just to deflect attention from Protests in North East, this is being made an issue by the BJP.”

Soon after he made this comment, Rahul Gandhi took to Twitter and posted a clip which shows Narendra Modi mentioning Delhi as a rape capital.


On the 12th of December, addressing the public in Godda, Jharkhand, Rahul Gandhi said, “Narendra Modi had said ‘Make in India’ but nowadays wherever you look, it is ‘Rape in India.’ In Uttar Pradesh Narendra Modi’s MLA raped a woman, then she met with an accident but Narendra Modi did not utter a word.”

The comment created anger amongst the BJP ministers, who demanded an apology from Rahul Gandhi and strict action against him.Rape in India’ 

Smriti Irani, the Textile Minister of India, who also holds additional charge as the Minister of Women and Child Development in India, lashed out at Rahul Gandhi.

Ms. Irani said, “This is the first time in history that a leader is giving a clarion call that Indian women should be raped. Is this Rahul Gandhi’s message to the people of the country? “

Members of Parliament (MPs) of the BJP claimed the comment was inappropriate.

Soon, the session was adjourned sine die as the 13th of December was the last day of the Winter Session of the Parliament.
