Rajasthan conducted elections for its Legislative Assembly on the 7th of December and the results for the same are scheduled to be announced on 11th of December. With the result date closing in, the Congress leaders in Rajasthan are out on the watch to prevent any meddling with the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).

One Congress MLA, namely Ramesh Chand Meena, from the Sapotra Assembly constituency, along with his supporters, camped outside the strong room, where the EVM boxes are being held since the 7th of December, on Saturday night, due to suspicion about EVM tampering.

Ramesh Chand Meena also alleged, the district election officer was working against them. Mr. Meena said, “The way things are done, it seems that the district election officer is working against us. We are suspicious that the EVM may be removed. We have complained against him to the Election Commission (EC.)” He said, his followers and he will continue to camp outside the strong room till the results are announced.

Karauli District Election Officer Abhimanyu Kumar refuted Mr. Meena’s accusations and said, “We have conducted a peaceful election in the district and no untoward incident has been reported. Adequate security has been deployed as per the guidelines of the Election Commission.” The Chief Electoral Officer, Anand Kumar, said, the rooms are under CCTV surveillance at all times.

Earlier, State Congress President Sachin Pilot asked the party’s candidates to stay alert and urged the EC to install CCTV cameras to monitor the strong rooms. He said, “We have asked the candidates and workers to be vigilant and ensure the CCTV cameras installed outside the strong room are operational.”

The Congress candidates belonging to other constituencies too stationed their followers at the strong rooms in their respective areas.
