All the employees of the Rajya Sabha are given work from home until the 23rd of April, Friday. The decision was taken in the wake of the recently imposed one week complete curfew/lockdown in the national capital, Delhi. 

In regard to this, the Parliamentary officials released a directive on the 20th of April. As per the directive, “Those working from home will be required to remain available through electronic means for the ‘smooth functioning of the office during this period ” The directive further read, “All categories of employees of Rajya Sabha Secretariat may, subject to exigencies of work in office, work from home 20.04.2021 to 23.04.2021.”

However, in the case of any administrative emergencies, requisite staff might be asked to attend the office by the concerned Divisional Head.

Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister of Delhi, on the 19th of April, announced a one week complete lockdown in Delhi. The imposed complete curfew started from the midnight of the 19th of April and would continue till Monday, the 26th of April.

The decision was taken by the AAP Government in the wake of the rising number of the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19 cases. The national capital of India reported the COVID-19 positivity rate at 30%, making it the worst affected region after Maharashtra.

The number of active COVID-19 cases in the Union Territory (UT) surged COVID-19 cases in Mumbai. The region of Delhi is reporting everyday cases above 25,000. In the past 24 hours, Delhi reported 240 deaths and 23,686 fresh cases. With this Delhi left behind Mumbai in terms of COVID-19 cases. It is also the second worst COVID-19 region of India, first is Maharashtra with close to 5.5 lakh active cases.

Till the 20th of April, Delhi has 76,887 active cases.
