Saina Nehwal returned to India with a Bronze medal from the Badminton World Championships in Glasgow. On Monday, she announced in a series of tweets that she would be shifting her base back to Hyderabad.
She is making the change to go back to training under Pullela Gopichand from Gopichand Academy.
The badminton star contacted her former coach and asked him if he’d take her under his wing again.
Saina stressed that at this crucial stage in her career Gopichand is the ideal coach to steer her in the right direction.
Saina also expressed gratitude to her current coach Vimal Kumar. She thanked him for the past three years and helping her become number one worldwide. She also gave Vimal credit for her 2015 and 2017 World Championship medals and her Super Series titles.
Back in September 2014, Saina Nehwal parted ways with Gopichand to go to Bengaluru and train under Vimal Kumar.
For a while I’ve been thinking about moving my training base back to the Gopichand Academy and I had a discussion about this with Gopi sir
