Sanjay Dutt, an actor turned politician, is all set to re enter politics after 10 years and join the Rashtriya Samaj Paksh (RSP.)
The news of his joining was confirmed by Mahadev Jankar, the founder of the RSP and the Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development Minister of Maharashtra.
During an event on the 25th of August, Mr. Jankar announced the news and said, “We have started working in the film sector as well to expand our party. As part of which, actor Sanjay Dutt is also joining the Rashtriya Samaj Paksh on the 25th of September.” Jankar further said, “‘Dhangar’ (shepherd) community is getting many benefits compared to what it used to get earlier.”
At the event, Jankar also played a video recorded by Sanjay Dutt, in which he admitted to joining the Party and greeted the RSP leaders and addressed Jankar as his “brother.”
The RSP is a part of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA,) led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP.)
Previously, Sanjay Dutt was a member of the Samajwadi Party (SP) and was expected to contest the Lok Sabha elections in 2009. However, he had to withdraw his name as per the orders of the Supreme Court, under the Arms Act. He was alleged of illegal possession of arms and terrorism in 1993. However, the charges of terrorism against him were dropped, but he was sentenced to imprisonment for illegal possession of weapons.
He was released from jail in 2016 and again came into the limelight after Sanju, a biopic about him, was released in 2018.
Sanjay Dutt will join the RSP on the 25th of September.
