Satyapal Malik, the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, on the 15th of August, hoisted the national flag at Sher e Kashmir Stadium in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir.

This is the first Independence Day after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led Central Government scrapped Article 370 and introduced the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Bill, 2019.
However, the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Bill, 2019 will be implemented on the 31st of October, which is also the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
Initially it was reported, Amit Shah, the Home Minister of India might unfurl the national flag, however, Satyapal Malik did the honour and hoist the flag.
On the 14th of August, the Government of India removed the curfew in Jammu, but it is still on in Kashmir.
