The Supreme Court (SC) on the 19th of August, allowed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the Sushant Singh Rajput death case.

A judge of SC, Justice Hrishikesh Roy, on the 19th of August, reviewed a petition filed by Rhea Chakraborty.

Bollywood actress Rhea Chakraborty filed a petition against the transfer of First Information of Report (FIR) filed by Bihar Police to CBI Mumbai.

Abhishek Manu Singhvi, advocate representing the Maharashtra Government argues over the filed FIR in Patna Police and the cause of action took place in Mumbai and the FIR registered in Patna is a zero FIR.

Ms. Chakraborty in her petition said, the Bihar Police has no jurisdiction in the matter, and that Rajput’s death was being used for political gains ahead of elections in Bihar.

Chakraborty’s counsel had told the apex court that the probe by the Mumbai Police has ‘proceeded quite substantially’ as it has recorded statements of 56 persons in the case.

It was submitted by Rajput’s father KK Singh’s counsel, Vikas Singh, that the probe by Mumbai Police was not fair and they hadn’t registered an FIR too.  However, Ms. Rhea’s lawyer argued and denied the allegations and said the probe conducted by the Mumbai Police was substantial and with evidences and statements of at least 56 people in the case.

On the other hand, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, who is representing the CBI, demanded a probe by the CBI saying the agency should investigate the Sushant Singh Rajput Death case.

After hearing arguments, the SC allowed the CBI to continue with the Sushant Singh Rajput death case. The Apex Court also directed Mumbai Police to hand over all evidence collected so far in the case to the probe agency.

In addition, the Court also said the FIR filed with the Patna Police by Sushant’s father K.K.Singh was lawful.

With these updates, the CBI is allowed to continue with the Sushant Singh Rajput Death case.
