SC Seeks Reply From Centre Regarding Banned BBC Documentary On PM Modi

The Supreme Court (SC) issued a notice to the Central Government regarding the banned BBC Documentary on Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi.

On the 3rd of February, Friday, the SC Bench comprising of Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice M.M. Sundresh issued the notice and directed the Central Government to submit a counter reply in the next three weeks.  The intervention of the Indian Judiciary system came after a bunch of advocates and journalists filed public interest litigations (PILs) against the blocked links and banned controversial BBC documentary, India: The Modi Question.

Notably, the Central Government led Broadcast and Information Department of India banned the links of the documentary in India, citing it as propaganda to tarnish the image of PM Narendra Modi and spread lies about the 2002 Gujarat Riots.

The opposition leaders and the netizens questioned the ban, following which many advocates and journalists moved the SC, seeking their intervention.  Taking note of the filed petitions, the Supreme Court reviewed the plea and issued a notice.

Meanwhile, the matter has been adjourned till April.
