Disappointed with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP,) the Shiv Sena party appealed to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) to resolve the tussle regarding the 50:50 power sharing formula in Maharashtra.

Thirteen days after the announcement of the Maharashtra Assembly elections’ results, the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance failed to form a Government in the State.

The reasons behind the unsettled dispute are the key positions in the Maharashtra Cabinet and the Chief Minister’s post.  While the BJP is adamant about making Devendra Fadnavis the Chief Minister of Maharashtra for a second term, the Shiv Sena wants to appoint Aaditya Thackeray as the Chief Minister.

Kishore Tiwari, a leader of the Shiv Sena, on the 5th of November, wrote a letter to Mohan Bhagwat, the President of the RSS, to intervene in the matter and resolve it.

Mr. Tiwari said despite receiving enormous support from the citizens of Maharashtra, the Government formation by the BJP and the Shiv Sena became an issue.  He said the BJP’s failure in following the ‘coalition dharma’ is a major reason for the delay in forming the Maharashtra Government.

However, the RSS did not yet respond to the letter dated the 5th of November.

Due to the ongoing issue, the Shiv Sena party said if the issue is not resolved and the BJP does not agree to their demands, the Shiv Sena is ready to ally with Sharad Pawar’s Nationalist Congress Party (NCP.)

With just a few days to the deadline for forming the State Government, how the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance would form the Government is a big question as neither party is ready to compromise.

The term of the Maharashtra Assembly is due to end on the 8th of November.  If the winning party fails to form the Government, the State would be under President’s rule.

Stay tuned for further updates.
