The Enforcement Directorate (ED) custody of Mr. Sanjay Raut, the Member of Parliament (MP) of the Shiv Sena, has been extended till the 5th of September.
On the 22nd of August, a special Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) Court judge M.G. Deshpande reviewed the money laundering case filed against Mr. Sanjay Raut and extended the custody. It is to be noted, that Mr. Sanjay Raut has been booked for a money laundering scam in the redevelopment work and land scam of the Patra Chawl, in Mumbai.
In regard to the scam, the Enforcement Directorate arrested Mr. Sanjay Raut on the 1st of August. After the arrest, the PMLA Court granted the ED custody till the 8th of August, which was extended twice till the 30th of August. Now, on the 22nd of August, the special court judge once again extended the custody, providing no relief for the Shiv Sena MP Mr. Sanjay Raut.
As per the initial ED report, Mr. Sanjay Raut and his family received Rs. 1.06 crores as ‘direct benefits’ with another trail of Rs. 2.25 crores. The ED registered a case and launched an investigation, seeking Mr. Sanjay Raut’s custody.
However, the Shiv Sena MP Mr. Sanjay Raut has denied the allegations and claimed the arrest and investigation to be a conspiracy plot of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP.)
