The Maharashtra ruling Shiv Sena Government, on the 18th of January, sought action against Arnab Goswami, the editor in chief of Republic TV.

The Party demanded strict action against Mr. Goswami over leaked WhatsApp chat concerned with national security.

Sanjay Raut, a senior leader of the Shiv Sena said, it’s a breach of the Country’s internal security and demanded action against Mr. Goswami.

The demand for strict action came after the leaked WhatsApp conversation between Goswami and then Broadcast Audience Research Council Chief Executive, Partho Dasgupta.

According to the leaked WhatsApp chat between the duo, Arnab Goswami was aware of the 2019 Balakot air strike after the Pulwama terror attack.

Sanjay Raut said, “I think this is a threat to country’s internal security. Sometimes, such military secrets are not known to top officials. If a jawan is found to possess any such secrets or documents, he is court-martialled. Here, he [Arnab] knew that Balakot [air strike] will happen. This means there is a breach in national security. What action will the country’s home minister and defence minister take on this? This is a matter concerning defence. We ask them, ‘will you court-martial him?’”

Through this recent incident, the Maharashtra Government also targeted the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP,) the ruling Government of India.

In Saamana, the mouthpiece of the Shiv Sena, they said, “If people from the BJP think that sharing of national secrets is not anti national and acting on such issues is an emergency-like situation, then their definition of nationalism needs to be examined.”

The Shiv Sena strongly criticised the ruling Government in the incident of WhatsApp chat leaks.

The Party said details from those transcripts, which have not so far been denied by Arnab Goswami, also exposed how Mr. Goswami and Mr. Dasupta had extensively discussed ways to rig Republic TV’s ratings.

The messages also show close proximity and coordination between Goswami’s TV channel and Bharatiya Janata Party leaders including ministers.

Recently, the Republic TV Editor in Chief made headlines in the TRP scam case and abettment to suicide case.

Besides the Shiv Sena, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and the Indian National Congress (INC) also questioned the chats and it’s leak.

The NCP even demanded to set up a Joint Parliamentary Committee and investigate the incident.

The NCP spokesperson Mahesh Tapase is likely to meet Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh on the 19th of January and seek clarification from Union Home Minister Amit Shah on the leaked chats.

Mr. Tapse said, “It is extremely shocking and disturbing to know how issues related to national security have been used to gain TRPs.”

Mr. Tapase added. “The question also arises how Arnab was privy to such sensitive information. The Ministry of Home Affairs has to identify the source and immediately take action.”

On Sunday, the INC also lashed out at the Central Government and demanded an answer how such confidential information was shared.

The Maha Aghadi Government, the alliance of the Shiv Sena, the INC and the NCP demanded an enquiry in the leaked WhatsApp chats between Arnab Goswami and Partho Das Gupta.

Stay tuned for further updates.
