On the 23rd of September, Sonia Gandhi, the interim President of the Indian National Congress (INC) and Manmohan Singh, the former Prime Minister of India, met P. Chidambaram, the former Finance Minister of India.
Both Ms. Gandhi and Mr. Singh visited Chidambaram at Tihar Jail, where he is currently serving his 14 day judicial custody.
Mr. Chidambaram has been in prison since the 5th of September in relation to the INX Media money laundering case.
After his meeting with Ms. Gandhi and Mr. Singh, Chidambaram said, “I am honoured that Sonia Gandhi and Dr. Manmohan Singh called on me today. As long as the party is strong and brave, I will also be strong and brave.”
Chidambaram’s family posted the said message on his Twitter handle.
During the meeting, Ms. Sonia Gandhi assured Chidambaram the complete support of the INC in fighting the case politically.
Sonia Gandhi and Manmohan Singh were accompanied by Karti Chidambaram, the son of P. Chidambaram.
After this meeting, Ms. Gandhi and Mr. Singh are expected to meet D.K. Shivakumar, a member of the INC, who is also alleged of corruption and is in judicial custody at Tihar Jail, Delhi.
