On the1st of June, the rains arrived  in Kerala, which marked the beginning of the southwest monsoon in southern India.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) report on the 28th of May, the monsoon was set to begin in the first week of June in South India

Dr. Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, the Director General of the IMD, said this monsoon, could be in favour of speeding up the harvesting of crops.   Dr. Mohapatra said, “As per our first stage of monsoon forecast, which was issued on April 15, we are expecting normal monsoon conditions with 100% rainfall over the country during September. However, we will be releasing the second stage of the monsoon forecast tomorrow,” according to news agency ANI.

The Indian agriculture system is dependent on this June to September rainfall, as 70 % of water is rainwater used to grow crops such as rice, corn, sugarcane, cotton and soybeans.

Telangana is expected to witness the beginning of monsoon in between the 16 to 24th of June.  Whereas, in Andhra Pradesh monsoon is expected in the first week of June.

Meanwhile, across India, Monsoon would hit after the 15th of July.
